Edward Nathan, MBBS, MPH, DrPH

Dr Edward Nathan is our resident Public Health Doctor. He completed his primary and secondary education in Penang, Malaysia and then continued his medical education at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. He began his medical career with the Malaysian Government, working as a Medical Officer in Surgery and Orthopaedic Dept in the state of Sabah, Malaysia.
In 1997, he began working in Penang Adventist Hospital initially with the Cardiothoracic Team and from the year 2001 he has been with the Wellness Center of Penang Adventist Hospital, as he believes that Preventive Medicine is an important and integral part of making man whole and well. To further his expertise in the field of Preventive Medicine, Edward became a student at Loma Linda University, California, USA, completing his MPH in Health Education and Promotion and DrPH in Preventive Care.

His special interest in Preventive Medicine is in the field of health risk assessment and corporate and personal wellness as well as helping those who want to quit the smoking habit. As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”, therefore Dr Edward likes to educate the public on health education issues so that the public are equip with knowledge on disease prevention.
He has been involved with Stop Smoking activities since 2003 and has helped many to quit the butt. He runs Stop Smoking Group Session therapy as well as conduct One-to-One Stop Smoking sessions since 2004. He has given numerous talks on Stop Smoking efforts to both Government and Non-Government Stop Smoking events. He is also an active member of PENBAR Committee (Penang Bebas Asap Rokok – a State Govt Commitee in making Penang Smoke Free).
Dr Edward speaks English, Malay and Hokkien. He is active in sports and likes the outdoor activities, like climbing hills and mountains and camping. He plays badminton and football.
